General Motors Co. CEO Mary Barra is scheduled to meet with President Donald Trump and White House officials in Washington, D.C., today, sources tell Reuters.

Their discussions are expected to touch on trade issues, GM’s labor negotiations with the United Auto Workers union and the Trump administration’s plan to freeze fuel economy standards after 2020, the news service says.
Trump has been complaining for months about GM plant closures in the U.S. and urging the company to relocate production to the U.S. from China and Mexico. He also has warned GM not to join three other carmakers who have struck a voluntary deal with California to meet tougher fuel economy standards than those planned by the White House.
Last Friday Trump described GM as “one of the smallest auto manufacturers” in Detroit. He may have been referring to the size of the company’s UAW-represented workforce, which is smaller than that of rivals Ford and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. GM is the largest of the three companies in terms of unit sales and net earnings.
