Mitsubishi Motors Corp. is developing a new version of its Lancer Evolution sports sedan, Autocar reports.

The next-generation Evolution will ride on Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi’s CMF-C/D F4 platform, according to the report. Power is expected to come from a turbocharged, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine. The powerplant is rated at about 300 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque in Renault’s Megane RS MR performance model.

In the Evolution, the four-banger could be teamed with a 48-volt mild-hybrid to boost output. The engine likely would be mated with a dual-clutch transmission and Mitsubishi’s S-AWC all-wheel-drive technology.

MMC launched the first-generation Lancer Evolution in 1992. The most recent variant, the Evolution X, was discontinued in 2016. Plans for a successor were put on hold due to the carmaker’s financial problems at the time. Nissan acquired a controlling stake in MMC in 2016.
