Schaeffler Expands Ohio Production Complex for 21st Time

Schaeffler Group is again expanding its powertrain production complex in Wooster, Ohio.

The facility opened in 1977 in a 27,000 sq-ft building with six employees. Since then it has expanded 20 times. The most recent addition was a $60 million, 90,000 sq-ft expansion completed last year.

The Wooster complex currently occupies more than 800,000 sq ft and employs 2,000 people who machine and assemble a variety of conventional and electrified drivetrain components. The center is Schaeffler’s global center of competence for its torque converter product line and leads the company’s E-Mobility product line in the U.S.

Now Schaeffler is adding 21,000 sq ft and hiring another 300 machinists and toolmakers. The company says the new addition will begin operations next spring.
