Volkswagen AG’s SEAT unit will unveil an all-electric concept model under its new Cupra sub-brand at the Frankfurt auto show in September.

The concept is expected to lead to a production EV that will ride on VW Group’s MEB electric-vehicle platform. One possibility is a performance variant of SEAT’s upcoming el-Born EV, which is an electric version of the marque’s Mii city car.

SEAT releaser a teaser image this week, which highlights the concept EV’s taillights. The carmaker describes the vehicle as a blend of an SUV/crossover vehicle and a sports coupe.

The rear of the EV will feature an aerodynamic diffuser, according to the carmaker. SEAT says the front design balances aesthetics and performance.

Announced last year, Cupra (short for cup racing) will serve as a technology flagship for SEAT. The first model, the Formentor crossover, was unveiled earlier this year.

Based on the Ateca SUV/crossover, the Formentor will include a plug-in hybrid option. SEAT and its Cupra sub-brand plan to launch a combined six electrified models by 2021.
