Skoda Readies 2 CNG Cars

Volkswagen AG’s Skoda unit is introducing variants of the Kamiq hatchback and Scala crossover vehicle modified to run on compressed natural gas.

The vehicles, which are being unveiled at this week’s CNG Mobility Days in Berlin, expand VW Group’s European CNG lineup to 19 models.

The list ranges from the SEAT Ibiza supermini, high-volume VW cars and the premium Audi A5 to commercial trucks and buses sold by MAN and Scania.

VW says its sales of CNG-powered vehicles nearly doubled in 2018. The company notes that CNG vehicles are 15% more fuel efficient than diesel-powered models. They also qualify for various government incentives.
