Turin, the ancestral home of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV, held a memorial service earlier today for CEO Sergio Marchionne, who died in Switzerland on July 25 from complications following cancer surgery.
The 66-year-old was lauded by a group of more than 2,000 executives, government officials, townspeople and FCA workers, Reuters reports. In an unusually emotional address, FCA Chairman John Elkann said Marchionne “taught all of us to think differently, to have courage to change and to do.”
A second memorial service for Marchionne is set for Sept. 27 at FCA’s U.S. headquarters in Auburn Hills, Mich.
