Volkswagen AG will officially introduce a new two-dimensional version of its logo next month at the Frankfurt auto show.

The plainer and flatter logo (pictured) marks a return to the minimalist style of most post-World War II versions of the design. VW switched to the current bevel-lettered, blue-and-white logo in 2000.
VW has been using the new minimalist design unannounced at the end of the “Something Big” and “Hello Light” television ads in the U.S. to tout its electrification program. The first VW model to carry the new badge reportedly will be the eighth-generation Golf five-door hatch.
