Ex-UAW Official Sentenced to 15 Months in Prison
Norwood Jewell, a former vice president of the United Auto Workers union, has been sentenced to 15 months in prison and a year of probation in a corruption scandal involving the UAW and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV.

Norwood Jewell, a former vice president of the United Auto Workers union, has been sentenced to 15 months in prison and a year of probation in a corruption scandal involving the UAW and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV.
The scandal revolves around some $4.5 million in funds intended for a joint FCA-UAW training center that were diverted to pay for trips, gifts and other unauthorized items for union and company members. The payouts violated the Labor Management Relations Act.

Jewell, who once headed the union’s FCA department, was indicted in April. He is the highest-ranking UAW official among four charged to date to be convicted. Seven other people—two with FCA and five with the union—were convicted earlier.
Jewell’s predecessor, the late General Holiefield, and his wife, also were part of the wrongdoing.
