Volkswagen AG’s Bentley unit is constructing a new engineering center at its headquarters in Crewe, England.

Due to be completed next autumn, the 50,000 sq-ft facility initially will focus on fuel efficiency and emissions testing and developing electrification technologies. Bentley plans to offer an electrified variant of every vehicle in its lineup by 2023.

The new engineering center also will have a climate-controlled dynamometer that can simulate temperatures ranging from 14°F to more than 104°F.

Bentley’s 100-person Technical Conformity department will be based at the test center. The new building complements Bentley’s existing advanced research and development and training facilities at the Crewe complex.
