Hyundai Motor Co. and its Kia Motors affiliate have joined Ionity GmbH, a consortium that is building an ultra-high-speed charging network in Europe for electric vehicles.

Ionity was formed in 2017 by Audi, BMW, Daimler, Ford, Porsche and Volkswagen.

To date, the group has installed 140 350-kWh charging stations in 14 countries. Plans call for the network to grow to 400 sites across Europe by the end of 2020, with a goal of having a charging station about every 120 km (74 miles) along major highways.
