Tesla Inc. took the wraps off its latest electric vehicle, the Model Y compact crossover late last night in Los Angeles.
Based on the Model 3 sedan, the Model Y features coupe-like styling. The two vehicles are said to share as much as 75% of their parts. Among the styling differences are the Model Y’s panoramic roof and slightly taller body.

Four powertrain configurations will be available: standard, long-range, all-wheel-drive and performance. The first two use a single, rear-drive electric motor. The latter two will add a second motor to power the front wheels.
Model Y production will begin in early 2021. But Tesla expects to begin taking orders in autumn 2020, starting with the $47,000 long-range (300 miles) model. The base $39,000 Model Y, with a 230-mile range, will debut later in 2021.
The awd and top-end performance models will start at $51,000 and $60,000, respectively. Both will be capable of driving about 280 miles between charges.
Tesla says the performance Model Y will be able to race from zero to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds on its way to a top speed of 150 mph. The vehicle gets 20-inch wheels, performance brakes, a carbon fiber rear spoiler, lowered suspension, aluminum alloy pedal and a track mode.
