Uber Technologies Inc. and electric car charging network EVgo Services LLC have agreed to work together to increase the use of EVs among the ride-hailing firm’s drivers.

The partners plan to launch pilot programs in select cities in coming months to better educate Uber drivers about EVs and charging stations. In addition, the companies will integrate their smartphone apps to allow current Uber EV owners to find and access nearby EVgo stations.

Other plans include developing incentives to encourage EV use among drivers, and partnering with third-party groups to build an infrastructure for electrified ride-hailing/sharing services. The companies also will work together to identify the best locations for new DC fast-charging stations and how to optimize charging behaviors.

EVgo already has partnerships with other ride- and car-sharing firms—such as Lyft and General Motors Co.’s Maven unit—to help boost EV usage. The company operates more than 1,200 DC chargers at some 750 locations in 34 states.
