ZF Friedrichshafen AG is partnering with Intel Co.’s Mobileye unit on a new family of cameras that will be launched later this year for a variety of advanced driver-assist and semi-autonomous vehicle systems.

The partners say they have landed contracts with multiple carmakers across several vehicle platforms for the S-Cam4 and TriCam4 cameras. ZF describes one multi-year deal to start in 2019 as the largest for an automotive camera in the company’s history.

The S-Cam4 family includes a single lens, mono-camera designed to help meet updated testing protocols, including the latest European standards for automatic emergency braking triggered by pedestrians and crossing bicycles.

The three-lens TriCam4 model supports semi-automated driving functions by adding telephoto and fish-eye lenses for improved long- short-range sensing capabilities, respectively.
